The origins of the basic T-shirt

It's not hard to see where this garment gets its name. Lay the T-shirt flat and it clearly forms a large T. The T-shirt dates back to the Spanish-American War at the start of the 1900s. It was worn by American navy servicemen as an undershirt beneath their thick uniforms. Towards the end of the war, the T-shirt was already regarded as an official part of the uniform, as the uniform was often both thick and heavy to wear. It therefore became common to see veterans wearing baggy military trousers with a classic T-shirt – often in military colours: khaki, sand and black. The T-shirt's timeless design
